Fences Teaser Trailer

Paramount Pictures has just released the teaser trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Fences, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. View trailer below.

In Fences, an African American father struggles with race relations in the United States while trying to raise his family in the 1950s and coming to terms with the events of his life. The movie is based on the play “Fences,” which opened on Broadway in 1987. The production won Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Actor, James Earl Jones and Best Featured Actress, Mary Alice. A revival of “Fences” opened in 2010, and the production won Tony Awards for Best Revival of a Play, Best Actor, Denzel Washington and Best Actress, Viola Davis.

Working at a bookstore, I’ve seen many teenagers come in an ask for August Wilson’s Fences as required reading for school (mostly for summer reading). Personally, I never have read the book, but given that the school system near me are requiring, I might have to check out the book. As for the movie, it looks pretty good, giving Denzel Washington a great and powerful monologue. As I said in my review for The Magnificent Seven, Washington (in general) commands his theatrical performances in his various films and seems to do so in this movie. Definitely gonna check this movie. Heck, Denzel is directing this movie…..pretty cool!

Fences is to be released on December 25th (Christmas Day), 2016

  • I’m happy to see that this one is finally coming to the big screen. It’s a riveting play and if the trailer is any indication, the movie will honor it well. Probably helps that August Wilson penned the screenplay himself before passing away. Things can get so messy when adaptations are done.
