Mortal Kombat Official Trailer

  1. An ancient tournament is reborn as Warner Bros. Pictures releases the official trailer for their upcoming reboot film Mortal Kombat. View trailer below.

A washed-up mixed martial arts fighter named Cole Young is unaware of his hidden lineage or why he is being hunted down by Sub-Zero of the Lin-Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he seeks out a clique of fighters that were chosen to defend Earthrealm in a high-stakes battle against the forces of Outworld.

Wow….just wow. This movie (at least from the trailer alone) looks very promising. To me, the Mortal Kombat games are classics, especially the original ones including the arcade version. The two live-action movies (i.e., 1995’s Mortal Kombat and 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) are kind of mixed bag. The former being the better of the two and gaining a cult following amongst fans, while the latter has been critically panned for being awful. Given that reception, one can see why studios weren’t exactly “eager” to reboot the Mortal Kombat franchise. Flash forward to now….and 2021’s Mortal Kombat is here and it looks pretty great. The visual are definitely amazing and the acting talent to play these iconic video game characters look solid as well. The trailer alone looks amazing and definitely showcases plenty of great imagery to this new iteration as well as a few fan services moments. How it will ultimately pan out in the movie as well as how it will be received by critics and moviegoers remains elusive. Still, I am definitely looking forward to seeing this film when it comes out.

Mortal Kombat  arrives in theaters and streaming on HBO Max simultaneously on April 16th, 2021
