We did it!!! The classic Nickelodeon animated characters gets a live-action treatment as Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movie releases the official trailer for Dora and the Lost City of Gold. View trailer below.
Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, nothing could prepare Dora (Isabela Moner) for her most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a rag tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.
Swiper no swiping, Swiper no swiping! Haha…I had to say that. While the whole “Dora the Explorer” phase was well beyond my childhood, I couldn’t escape from watching a few episode here and there (just to see what the whole craze was about for this). As a kid’s show, it was okay. A bit repetitive, but I can see the appeal to the younger generation. Like all children’s shows, Dora the Explorer sort of faded into the background as new shows came about. Of course, this leads to this new movie, seeing Dora getting a live-action reimaging of the character. As one can imagine, I can see why this new movie (judging from the trailer) is appealing to kids, with plenty of kid friendly goofiness and adventure. However, it kind of reminds me a of a TV movie and nothing more. Of course, I’ll see the film when it comes out, but its definitely not something I’m really excited for. Just reminds me another “too little, too late” movie endeavor for something that was once popular years ago.

This movie looks awesome and I have a feeling Boots is going to steal the show. Looks like Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones, both of which are awesome franchises. However, that said, this seems to be kind of ruining what Dora has been all these years. I’m curious to see the reaction of my kids when I show this to them. Having six daughters, I’ve watched an episode or two of Dora (or 383,048) and she just doesn’t seem to be Dora. My kids mostly lost interest when little Dora became tween Dora. I don’t think teen Dora will set well with them.

Dora was past my time, too. However, I had to endure with my little brother and now my daughter!
The thing about this trailer that vexes me is who exactly is this made for? Kids today don’t really know her, (maybe the teen version of her?) and there isn’t exactly a clamoring for a Dora movie, especially one that looks this cheap. Not to mention no Swiper, Map, etc…as far as i can tell.
That being said, this isn’t made for me. I just hope it is better than that Kim Possible movie that came out a few weeks ago!
I agree. It would’ve been better made if this movie came out around the time when Dora was really popular. It’s kind of hard to say who this movie is made for.
