The Grinch Official Trailer

Everyone’s favorite Dr. Seuss character returns to the big screen as Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment releases the first official trailer for upcoming film The Grinch. View trailer below.

The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism. Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Doctor Strange) lends his voice to the infamous Grinch, who lives a solitary life inside a cave on Mt. Crumpet with only his loyal dog, Max, for company. With a cave rigged with inventions and contraptions for his day-to-day needs, the Grinch only sees his neighbors in Who-ville when he runs out of food. Each year at Christmas they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their increasingly bigger, brighter and louder celebrations. When the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to gain some peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas. To do so, he decides he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, even going so far as to trap a lackadaisical misfit reindeer to pull his sleigh. Meanwhile, down in Who-ville, Cindy-Lou Who—a young girl overflowing with holiday cheer—plots with her gang of friends to trap Santa Claus as he makes his Christmas Eve rounds so that she can thank him for help for her overworked single mother. As Christmas approaches, however, her good-natured scheme threatens to collide with the Grinch’s more nefarious one. Will Cindy-Lou achieve her goal of finally meeting Santa Claus? Will the Grinch succeed in silencing the Whos’ holiday cheer once and for all.

I think everyone remembers How the Grinch Stole Christmas from either the original Dr. Seuss book or the 1966 cartoon special or even the now infamous song “You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch” by Thrul Ravenscroft. Thus, it comes at no surprise that someone else would eventually come around in providing a remake for The Grinch. Additionally, this isn’t the first time either as director Ron Howard provided a live-action adaptation with 2000’s The Grinch, which starred Jim Carrey as the title character. Now, the character of “the Grinch” returns to the animated world in this new iteration, with Benedict Cumberbatch playin the role or rather voicing the role. It will be very interesting to how this movie will be received both critics and moviegoers when The Grinch gets released. All in all, i think it will be good (I’m hoping) and i look forward to seeing it.

  • How many Grinches do we need?

  • The trailer looks cute and I think I’d like it more if it wasn’t the Grinch. I’m old fashioned (okay, maybe just old) and I don’t think there’s a possibility the Grinch could ever be rebooted successfully. I’ve watched the 2000 version a million times with the kids and over the last 18 years it has grown on me and I dislike it less than I did when it came out, but I still don’t see that as the Grinch, or actually enjoy it. They should have came up with another obnoxious mean creature that could do the same thing, not tried to work it into the world of Who. Of course the kids will hound me until I watch it with them, so I will, and hopefully I’ll be eating crow after seeing it.

    • Haha…i agree with you, Tony. Hollywood should’ve come up with another character instead of recycling the idea of the Grinch. Like i said, i am curious to see how critics and moviegoers will view this animated movie.

  • What have I just watched? lol I guess I will have to agree with Tony above. I am not particularly a fan of 2000 movie, but what I see in this trailer does not exactly inspire me.

    • I agree with you on the 2000 version. I liked some moments, but i rather just stick with the original animated one. Thus, my opinion on this new movie is sort of mixed.
