Ready Player One Teaser Trailer

Get ready to get your “Game On” as Warner Bros. and director Stephen Spielberg release the teaser trailer for the upcoming film Ready Player One. View trailer below.

In the year 2044, the world has been gripped by an energy crisis from the depletion of fossil fuels and the consequences of global warming, causing widespread social problems and economic stagnation. To escape the decline of the world is facing, people turn to the OASIS, a virtual reality simulator accessible by players using visors and haptic technology such as gloves. It functions both as an MMORPH and as a virtual society, with its currency being the most stable in the real world. It was created by James Halliday who, when he died, had announced in his will to the public that he had left and Easter Egg inside OASIS, and the first person to find it would inherit his entire fortune and the corporation. The story follows the adventures of Wade Watts starting about five years after the announcement, when he discovers one of the three keys pointing to the treasure.

Oh wow….that’s was pretty awesome. I’ve read of this book (the book was written by Ernest Cline), but I never picked up the book. However, after seeing this trailer, I might have to. I was actually quite surprised to see so many iconic film pop culture references in this trailer (i.e. The Iron Giant, Freddy Kruger, and the DeLorean, etc.). In addition, the movie is being directed by Spielberg and the cast, which includes Tye Sheridan, T.J Miller, Simon Pegg, Olivia Cooke, and Mark Rylance. All in all, this looks incredible. Ready Player One is already on my “most anticipated movies” of 2018. Can’t wait!!!

Ready Player One  opens in theaters on March 30th, 2018

  • I can’t wait! The book is awesome, I’m about 3/4 of the way through it. It’s such a clever and entertaining means of recounting 80s pop cultural history. And Even though we didn’t live in the 80s, I still feel really close to it.

  • Having listened to the audiobook (narrated by Wil Wheaton) earlier this year, this is one I’m really looking forward to. Though having seen the teaser, which still looks very cool, I’m not sure how faithful it’s going to be to the book. I don’t recall any big racing sequence in the source material (though Wade does drive a DeLorean) and Spielberg’s BFG film made some big deviations itself.

  • Really hope they stay true to the book. One of my all time favourite reads!
