The Great Wall Trailer

Matt Damon heads over the “The Great Wall of China” to battle as Universal Pictures and Legendary present the new trailer for The Great Wall. View trailer below.

Starring global superstar Matt Damon and directed by one of the most breathtaking visual stylists of our time, Zhang Yimou (Hero, House of Flying Daggers), Legendary’s The Great Wall tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. The first English-language production for Yimou is the largest film ever shot entirely in China.

Hmmmm….I don’t know about this movie. I forgot to post the first trailer (the teaser trailer…my bad) when it originally came out, so I decided to post this one. Visually speaking, the movie looks great, which I expect from such a “visual-style” director such as Zhang Yimou. However, while I do like Matt Damon as an actor, I’m not quite convinced about him in being in this movie. It just seems awkward (to me). And this goes about the whole thing of Hollywood’s “Great White Savior” portrayal in feature films (who knows….I might do a editorial on that). Whether or not The Great Wall will be well-received still remains to be seeing.

The Great Wall  is to be released on February 17th, 2017

  • The first time I saw a trailer for this I honestly thought it was a spoof or something. I thought the first one was laughably bad, but also, and I’m not tremendously attuned to PC issues, but I thought Matt Damon’s very presence in a period movie about The Great Wall, no matter how phantasmal it is, was kind of insulting to Chinese culture. But, basically, it boils down to, WHAT THE FRICK IS GOOD WILL HUNTING DOING IN THIS FILM? Matt Damon’s not an action star. THAT, is what made the first three Bourne movies work. He’s an everyman. Yimou has made some of the best movies I’ve ever seen, but this looks like a complete disaster, not to mention it’s opening in the midst of so many solid blockbusters with clutch trailers that I would usually say they’d better hope they make it up overseas, but I doubt it’ll be well-received there either.
